- Day 1
- Departure early in the morning. Leave Athens by the coastal road up to the Corinth Canal where you may have a short stop to see the channel and then drive on to Mycenae, the prehistoric city with its megalithic walls. Visit also at a walking distance the tomb of King Atreus, father of Agamemnon and Menelaus, the husband of Helen of Troy. You may proceed to Epidaurus and visit the ancient theater, famous for its excellent acoustic, as well as the Asclepieion a few steps away, which was the most celebrated healing center of the Classical world, the place where ill people went to find cure. Later in the afternoon you may drive to Nafplion, the first capital of the modern State of Greece with its impressive fortress Palamidi, and the small picturesque islet of Burdji right at the waterfront . Overnight at the hotel in Nafplion.
- Day 2
- Breakfast at the hotel. Drive 5-6 kms north to Tyrins, the mycenean fortress built on top of a hill, that has been occupied at least for 7 thousand years, at the beginning of Bronze Age. It reached its peak between 1400 and 1200 bC. Its most notable element is the Palace and its megalithic walls and tunnels. In Anticuity, the city was related to the mythology refered to Hercules. Some sources relate it with his birthplace. About 40 kilometers further north, Corinth offers two choices, either to pass the rest of the day at the beach, or see something less common, like some monuments of its rich past. The city had great prosperity during the classic age, and here you can find the remains of one of the most important temples of Apollo, with colums wrought in one piece of solid rock, a rather rare phenomenon in the Doric constructions. The return back to Athens is a question of an hour and a halph (80 kms). End of the program with the delivery of the car.
